Removing your Z32 rear wiper

OK here’s a write-up with pics of how to remove your rear wiper from the car. Not to hard at all and basically simple.

Tools needed-
10mm socket or wrench
12mm socket or wrench
Phillips screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver

Step 1-Locate the rear wiper. Good. Now pat yourself on the back.

Step 2- Pry off the cap at the pivot point by the hatch. I was able to just use my gorilla hands.

Step 3- Use a 12mm socket and remove the nut on the wiper.

Step 3.5 ( I didn’t do this) You can take a hammer or another blunt object and while pulling up on the wiper, tap the bolt downward.

Step 4- Open your rear hatch. There are 3 screws holding the center panel on the hatch. 1 on each side and 1 in the middle. Remove these and then remove the panel.

Step 5- You should see the wiper assembly now. There’s a bronze screw holding the side black hatch panel in place. Remove that screw and gently with a flat head screwdriver unclamp some of the clips on the outside.

Step 6- Use a 10mm wrench or short socket to remove the screw under the panel and then the 2 other screws.

Step 7- (This is what I did to remove the wiper arm) Once the 3 screws on the motor are loose, the wiper arm just comes off without hammering.

Step 8- Unplug the harness from the wiper motor.

Step 9- Make sure you have your plug for the empty hole. We can’t have that Z32 hatch sucking in water, mice, or bird feces can we. Link to M.U.L.E. ‘s post on where to get the plug.

Also you can get it from SPLparts.com

Step 10- Put plug in hole and push in. (It ain’t that hard people.)

And of course clip back in the side hatch panel and put the center one back in too. If you need pics of how to do this after reading this far, please hit yourself in the head with whatever tool you have in your hand at the time.

Results- Weight savings (minimal)
Sexiness (major)

And I did keep the rear wiper assembly intact and in my closet now.

Good job Dustin. I need to do mine. I got my cap from SPL last year and I still have not gotten around to taking mine off. Maybe I'll do it this weekend.
