What transmission is that?
Hey viewers,
I have a question about the Z31 manual transmission. Is there a way to tell the difference just by looking at it, or is there a product number
somewhere?
As far as I've read, the Z31 had 3 different transmissions:
FS5W71C - For the non-turbo Z.
FS5R90A - For the '84-'86 manual turbo Z.
FS5R30A - For the '87 - '89 turbo Z.
Does anyone know if these serial numbers are actually written on the transmission case?
I'm on the market for an FS5R30A, but I want to make sure I get the right one first, especially if it's already been removed from the vehicle.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Go here:

Be very wary when trying to purchase the 30A. Many people will try to give you the 90A. They have no idea there is a difference between the 87-89 and
84-86. You can even tell them there is a difference and they will give you the wrong one. Happened to me three times in my quest for one. I eventually
got mine off e-bay, from a fellow z31 owner.

Hey Drifter.
I checked that link out. I saw those pictures, but I didn't realize until I checked again that the lower 3 photos are of the 30A. It looks like the
case itself is slightly different.
Just another question. I'm considering maybe picking one up off ebay if I can't find one at maybe a parts yard. Is there anything I should carefully
check before I put down money on one? The condition of the gears etc?
Finally, just curious, how much did you pick yours up for?
Thanks again,
Dave
